Paycheck (2003) IMDB rating: 6.10 Plot: Michael Jennings is a reverse engineer and what he does is technical jobs for certain companies and as soon as he is done, his memory of the work he has done is wiped out. Now the longest he has been contracted is 2 months. But now billionaire, James Rethrick offers him a job that would last 2 years, maybe 3, and he promises that he will probably earn 8 figures. Michael agrees. Before beginning he turns in all of his personal effects. And when the job is done, his memory is erased and he learns he made over 90 million dollars over the three years. When he goes to claim it and his personal effects, he discovers that prior to the erasure of his memory he waived his rights to the money he earned and that the items that were given to him were not the ones he gave when he began. Later he is arrested by the FBI who say that he committed some act of treason and murder. It’s while he is in custody that he escapes using some the items that he was given. He later meets with a friend who gives him some information that helps him understand what is going on. And at the same time Rethrick for some reason wants him so he is being pursued by Rethrick’s people.

Two of a kind, one male and one female, enough to start populating the earth again. God protected all until they could repopulate. Seven of clean animals and two of unclean animals. Seven of clean animals so that their were some for sacrifice to God. And possibly, because there would not be much in the way of food as they got off of the ark and it was at that time that God then did say that animals could be eaten for the first time. the clean and unclean part is something to do with what animals the old testament god said you are and are not allowed to eat. but you’re absolutely correct not only would it be a bit risky taking just 2 because if one died that’s it, one mating pair is not a viable breeding population. you would need at least a few dozen maybe over 100, minimum, and a very strict breeding program to ensure maximum genetic diversity.

A mother in need of help?
I have three teenage children two girls Mercedes, Kyra, and Jared who I love and would die for. The older two have been giving me problems of late.

I should first state that Mercedes who is 13 and Jared who’s 16 are not my biological children. They are the children of my deceased my friends of a car accident. My husband and I have had guardianship of them for 4 years. A year after Mercedes and Jared moved in he and my daughter wanted to date and my husband and I were "shaky" about so we started going to a family counselor and our counselor told us it would be better if we let them date under our rules and guidelines we set up because she told us that they would have dated behind out back and by letting them date we had all the more control of the whole situation.

Its 3 years later they’re still together and they’re happy together. And that makes me happy but lately things have gone from good to bad.

I’ll start with my 16 year old daughter Kyra for the last 8 months I want to say has been rebelling and rebelling some more. She’s just doing things to spite me. Everything I tell her to do she seems to do the opposite.

Mercedes my 13 year old daughter not biologically but I don’t care she my daughter. We have an extremely close relationship and she even started calling us mom and dad about 3 months ago. And that means so much to me I love her so much.

Jared my 16 year old son or not biologically but he’s my son because I love more than anything. He is a cool calm kid with a good head on his shoulders and isn’t a big risk taker and actually listens to me.

But everything went out of whack a couple of months ago when Mercedes started calling us mom and dad. Jared was a little I want to say mad that she was calling us that and has just stopped talking to Mercedes. I tried talking to him but he won’t listen to me. He just mad at her all and us all the time.

And since Kyra is already rebelling its added cause to for Jared to rebel and its been hell bound in my household two rebelling teenagers. They have doing inappropriate things like I came home last week and Kyra giving a bj to Jared. I also think they may be smoking pot. They’ve gotten to tickets for public indecency and they’ve just been running wild.

So I did what any mom would do I grounded them and it caused hell to break loose Kyra and I’ve been yelling at each other everyday. And Jared just followed suit and he told me he hated me and his sister the other day. He told me how I wasn’t his mom and that I can screw off.

They’ve been sneaking out and I’ve found used condoms in Jared’s room.

My husband is out of country right now for work and it just me. I don’t know what to do.

Can someone help? What is happening with my teenagers? Please help me what do you think?

First – This is actually normal teenage behavior, as horrible as it sounds. I’m still young enough that I remember being a teenager and being a complete hellion for my mother.

Second – know that excessive attempts at control (like not letting them leave the house for an indefinite period of time) will only cause them to act out even further. Drawing from my own life, when my mother attempted to be overly controlling, I acted out even worse. I would sneak out, I smoked pot, I got in trouble with the law. Teenagers are exploring their identity and learning about boundaries – the more you try to control them in an obsessive manner, the more they will rebel. They want to have control over their lives at this point, and this is the hard part about parenting – you have to find a balance that allows you to still supervise their activities, but allow them to have the control they seek (and need).
When my mother finally realized the obsessive control wasn’t going to work, we sat down and negotiated. For instance, she allowed me to go out on weekends and have a social life in exchange for a curfew and constant check-in with her. If calling her every few hours to let her know where I was meant I could stay out, I was more than happy to do it. Now, I’m not saying you’re obsessively controlling because I know very little of your situation.

Can you work out a negotiation with the children? If they have cell phones, some services DO offer GPS tracking on phones – the kids don’t have to know. You can set limits on cell phone minutes, texting, and data usage as well!

Work out a negotiation and base their rules on their behavior. If they do something wrong – like smoking pot, as you mentioned – take away a privilege until they earn it back.

They’re at the age where you can’t have the control you want. You have to hope what you’ve taught them and continue to teach them will guide them in their behaviors to make wise choices. Of course, you know you can’t do that on hope alone – the negotiation of privileges will allow you (AND them) control of their lives.

They’ve lost a privilege, as you mentioned, and that will cause intense anger/tension in the household. Have you given them the chance to earn back trust or incentive to behave in a proper way? Though they’re teenagers, they still need tangible goals ("Oh, if I do what Mom wants, I can have (privilege) back") to change behavior. They need to clearly understand why they’re being punished, even if they claim to understand – say it anyway!

I was happy to read you went to counseling. The children who’ve lost their genetic parents will likely struggle for awhile in their loss, so I hope they’re still going to a counselor. I’m surprised they haven’t gotten into more trouble – many teens act out in inappropriate ways in order to cope with their loss.

Know that – there IS hope! Even the worst, most rebellious teens can turn out as good people, my sibling and I being prime examples.

So can you work out a negotiation? Can you find a way to allow them to "re-earn" privileges when they break a rule? They need something to control in their lives in order to develop and feel independence.

problems about my ethnicity at home?
So I am half Japanese and half white. My dad is less than a quarter Native American (we don’t know for sure cuz my grandma isn’t sure), who knows because my grandma and grandpa look pretty white. He likes to say he is a quarter though. So anyway, I love my dad and we’re very close, however, everytime I tell ppl I am half white he doesn’t like it… but if I’m less than an eighth Native American… it’s not that big of a deal… is it? He always says I’m Asian. If a guy I’m dating likes me he says "he must like asians" and I find it kind of insulting because first of all… most ppl think I’m half Mexican and 2nd of all… just because a guy likes me doesn’t mean it’s because of my race and I’m not Asian, I’m mixed. He does this a lot and it bothers me everytime he categorizes me as an Asian. I consider myself biracial. And it seems like he believes in the "one drop rule"… and tells ppl he is Native American. It’s annoying. Can’t we all just be proud of who we are? I’m mixed… no need to categorize me. And I feel like he likes calling me Asian so it seems like I am mostly Japanese and Native American… when in fact I only have a little bit of Native American. I do not care about ethnicity… I don’t care about talking about it. I am who I am, period. I just hate when my own dad categorizes me. I feel like my parents do not like to talk about my white half because my mom had experiences with racism in California. But it makes me very uncomfortable with myself. I’m 16, and I’m already having trouble finding who I am without them denying my white side. What should I say to them? I don’t want to hurt any feelings because again, my dad and I are like best friends. Thanks so much.

P.S. The other day my mom was like "You’re 75% asian"… wouldn’t that mean I’m a quarter Native American? Yeah… quit trying to make me Asian- they’re like completely in denial that I AM half white. A big reason of why I say I am biracial is it’s easier. I don’t need to say "Oh, I’m half asian… other half is white with a little american indian but we dont know for sure" lol. Well considering I wouldn’t consider a native american to be asian, your def not 75% Asian. If it doesn’t matter to you, laugh it off and say your a mutt. That’s what my friend does that has several ethnicities, so people stop bothering her about what she is.

But sometimes it isn’t about blood, it’s about culture. If you dad feels he is more Native than he actually is, because of culture or religion, then maybe he is Native. Maybe your dad feels ashamed for being white, though, that’s the way it sounds like. He probably needs to deal with the fact that his race has some bad history, but that’s not his fault, and doesn’t have anything to do with the majority of the race…well anymore anyway.

I don’t know…I’m very proud of my ancestry, but not everyone feels that way. I’m proud I have native american in me, as well as various European nationalities. My husband makes fun of me for saying I’m part English and German and Irish, because he’s actually from England, he tells me "no, your American". But he doesn’t seem to get it…I think in America a lot of us have a need for cultural and nationality identity, cause we’re one big melting pot. Personally, I’m not exactly proud to be american because the majority of the country ignores our constitution and the reason we became independent…but that’s a-whole-nother rant.

But you should explain to your parents that your proud of all your nationalities and ancestry, and ask them not to be racist against their own race, because diversity is great as long as people don’t make it into a big deal.

I’m not sure what your question is….but obviously your dad has problems with basic fractions…

One way to open a dialogue about this, might be to point out the obvious – that no matter how he breaks it down, there is no way he is 1/4 American Indian – and thus you aren’t either…so why does he identify himself that way?

Lots of times, asking questions helps to prevent a fight. Try to find out how he feels, then let it digest for a while before you bring it up again – and when you bring it up again, talk about your feelings on it….don’t say things like "You do, or You say….simply talk about your side, and your reactions…" – thats another way to avoid arguments, because it prevents the other person from becoming defensive…which is a real "moving forward" killer

Maybe he thinks you will have a harder time explaining yourself as a biracial person. If he ‘makes you believe’ you are just Asian you won’t be confused. Ok, that makes no sense, I’m just trying to see his point of view. He can say what he wants but facts are facts, you are half white (maybe native american, still not sure) and half Asian.
